China sees drop in arrests for drug-related crimes
BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- China has witnessed a consistent decline in the number of arrests for drug-related crimes in recent years, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) announced on Wednesday.
From January 2024 to May 2025, Chinese procuratorial authorities approved the arrests of over 53,000 individuals suspected of involvement in drug-related crimes, down 14 percent year on year, the SPP told a press conference.
Miao Shengming, deputy procurator-general of the SPP, noted that China has stepped up efforts to combat drug-related crimes, particularly those related to money laundering offenses.
During the same period, Chinese prosecutors approved the arrests of over 700 individuals for alleged drug-related money laundering and prosecuted more than 1,300, the SPP said.
