Panchen Rinpoche performs duties, conducts Buddhist, social activities in Xizang

LHASA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Panchen Erdeni Chos-kyi rGyal-po performed his regular duties at the Xizang branch of the Buddhist Association of China and participated in religious and social activities in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region from June 30 to Aug. 20.
Panchen Rinpoche, a leader of Tibetan Buddhism, arrived in Lhasa, the regional capital, by plane from Beijing on June 27. From July 7 to 24, he visited Qamdo and Nagqu, where he attended religious services and conducted social research.
During his time in Lhasa, he presided over a series of meetings as the president of the Xizang branch of the Buddhist Association of China.
At a symposium held by the association's Xizang branch on Aug. 13 to mark Xizang Autonomous Region's 60th founding anniversary, he emphasized that Xizang's progress is a systematic achievement that spans politics, the economy, social harmony, and ecological advancement. He noted that work related to ethnic groups and religion has played an irreplaceable role in building a united, stable, and harmonious society.
Between July 1 and Aug. 18, Panchen Rinpoche also visited several temples in Lhasa to provide Buddhist teachings and offer blessings to believers and residents.
Additionally, he carried out research at a local cultural development company.
Panchen Rinpoche is a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top political advisory body, and is also vice president of the Buddhist Association of China.
